Termites

Your home is one of the largest purchases you will ever make. Protect it. East Texas is listed in the high risk area of Texas for termites and Texas is home to 5 termite species. It is estimated that more than 1 in 5 homes in high activity areas have been or will be attacked at sometime by the voracious insects. In some species of termites it takes less that 6 months to cause extensive damage to your home.

A house with damage from termites often looks the same as any other house on the surface. Termites can build nests hidden inside walls, causing damage for years before it becomes apparent. We are trained to spot signs of termite activity, potentially before the colony has damaged the wood inside a home.
In some cases, this damage can be easily mistaken for water damage. Termite inspectors can discern between structural damage caused by water or wood-destroying insects – including termites, carpenter ants and beetles.

With the warmer weather coming we expect to start seeing termite swarms. While we know termites’ purpose on this earth is to help recycle wood and make nutrients so that other plants can grow, we don’t want them to recycle our homes!  With your home being one of the most expensive investments you ever make it is once again important to be proactive and not reactive in treatment. According to the National Pest Management Association, termites cause up to $5 billion a year in damages in the United States. And Texas A&M says that in East Texas there are 20+ colonies of termites per acre of land. We have several species of termites in our area. The Eastern Reticular termite, Drywood and Dampwood termites and the very aggressive Formosan termite.  Our treatments can last anywhere from 5-10 years, depending on the product and treatment we use.  Each home and each treatment will vary based on our assessment.
